About
VerseVoices is a Word Study Bible, published one verse at a time. Each entry takes a single verse back to the language it was written in, Hebrew or Greek, and lets the original word say what the English translation could only point at. The scholarship is already filled in. You are not handed a blank template. You are handed the word, opened.
Every entry carries an original abstract artwork from the VerseVisions series, painted to the verse it accompanies.
The Author
I am Mark Lawrence. I write and paint VerseVoices, and I am the artist behind the fine-art gallery at marklawrencegallery.com and the VerseVisions series of abstract paintings.
The seeing, the writing, and the conviction are mine. The Hebrew and Greek scholarship is the work of a disclosed partnership, described plainly under Editorial Standards below. There is no pretense here of a lone scholar at a desk with forty years of Greek. There is a writer who means every word, working with tools that open the original languages honestly, and telling you exactly how it is done.
Editorial Standards
The translation. I use the King James Version throughout. It is in the public domain, it is the version this publication was built around, and it does not change once an entry is live.
The original languages. Word meanings are drawn from public-domain reference works: Strong's Concordance, Thayer's Greek Lexicon, and Liddell-Scott-Jones for classical usage. No copyrighted lexicon is reproduced. Meanings are stated in my own words, not copied. Where a reading is an interpretive choice rather than plain dictionary fact, the entry says so.
The method, disclosed. Original-language research and drafting are developed with Claude, an AI assistant made by Anthropic. The reading is mine. The artwork is mine. Nothing is published that I have not weighed and chosen. I state this on every study guide and hold to it on every page.
Corrections. If something here is wrong, I fix it and acknowledge the correction. Scripture quotations stay as published; commentary and word studies are corrected as needed.
Doctrinal Statement
I hold to the historic Christian faith as the church has confessed it.
- The Scriptures. The Bible, Old Testament and New, is the inspired and authoritative Word of God, sufficient for faith and life.
- God. There is one God, eternally existing in three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
- Jesus Christ. Fully God and fully man, born of a virgin, sinless in life, crucified for our sins, raised bodily from the dead, ascended, and coming again.
- Salvation. By grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Not by works, lest any man should boast.
- Humanity. Made in the image of God, fallen in sin, and in need of the redemption God provides in Christ.
- The Holy Spirit. Indwells every believer, and is at work to make us like Christ.
- The believer's keeping. Those whom God saves, He keeps. Salvation rests on His faithfulness and not on ours, and He will not lose one who is His.
- The Church and the call. The people of God are sent to carry this good news to the world.
- The last things. Christ will return in person, and there is life everlasting with God for all who belong to Him.
